Our Story

 

Roberto Diaz, creator, and founder of Berto’s Chimis, was born in Dominican Republic and raised in Long Island, NY. Growing up surrounded by sounds and flavors from his native island, he knew that he wanted to one day share his culture beyond the typical cuisine.

The vision of bringing Chimis to the streets of Raleigh, NC began one afternoon after Roberto and his now wife, Johanna, were deciding what to make for dinner. Roberto decided to make a Chimi, a Dominican style burger with bold and explosive flavors. One bite and a simple comment sparked the idea of Berto’s Chimis. Food has a wonderful way of bringing nostalgia and transporting one to a distant and exciting place all in one bite. That is a mission that Berto’s Chimis strives to accomplish, providing its customers traditional Dominican street food and high-quality customer service.  Berto’s Chimis is excited to serve the Triangle Area and show everyone what Chimis are all about!
